Jove 1.0

Overview

“Jove” is a windows form application that calculates snow and wind loads based on geometrical properties of structures and basic values such as wind velocity, height above ground etc. Eurocode excluding National Annexes is applied for the calculation of loads. Results given in the application at the end of the process, can be used for further calculations, input of structural analysis or cross-checks. In the following parts, snow and wind load tabs will be detailed.

Snow Load

Snow load in “Jove” is calculated according to EN 1991-1-3. Basically, climatic region, altitude and topography are the input of the characteristic snow load on the ground. In the case that the contractor provides a characteristic value, this can be assigned to the software as well. Finally, by selecting roof type and assigning geometrical variables accordingly, snow load on the roof is calculated by the software as a pressure. The restrictions given in the code is strictly followed by the software. For instance, a warning message will appear for input of altitude above 1500 m where EN1991-1-3 is not applicable.

Wind Load

Wind Load in “Jove” is calculated according to EN1991-1-4. Same as snow load, after the assigning basic values such as wind velocity, terrain category and height above the ground, type of the structure can be selected to calculate wind loads. After the selection of the structure type, related geometrical properties will be requested by the software. Finally, all wind action cases that need to be considered in the design, will be appeared in a results window. In addition, mean wind velocity and peak velocity pressure will be given in the input window just for information. Although recommended values in Eurocode are used, variables such as air density, structural and orography factors can be changed through the dashboard.

Results that are computed according to EN1991-1-3, will be illustrated in a new window. Regarding with roof type and geometrical conditions (will be activated after the selection of the roof type), all cases will be showed with a report that indicates used parameters throughout the calculations. For instance, The figure below is taken from results window of snow load on duo pitch roof.

Results that are computed in accordance with EN1991-1-4, will be illustrated in a new window. Regarding with the geometrical conditions (will be activated after the selection of the structure type), all cases will be showed with a report that indicates used parameters throughout the calculations. As an example, wind load on vaulted roof given in the figure below taken from results window. Although there is a single case in the example, there might be multiple cases regarding with shape of the structure that need to be considered for the design.

The windows form application is free to use. The “.exe” file (without setup) will be downloaded from external github servers.
